![]() ![]() It could be slice of life on an alien planet or whatever, but for me, it just has to have that feel of day-to-day living, without extensive overtones of other genres. ![]() I agree that it doesn't have to be realistic. I think the recent Kimi To Boku fits that bill, as well as Hidamari Sketch (to a degree, it was also more relaxing than real life). ![]() Like, Lucky Star was a comedy to me, and Aria was a therapeutic anime to me (and oh yes, that genre actually exists, thank Sato!) A real slice of life show for me would be a show that is actually just a completely ordinary life. Personally, I feel like the "slice of life" genre is mostly misnomer. What do you think about it? I'm as curious as Chitanda Eru right about nowĮverything related to anime is fair game on this subreddit. It's like a diary that tells me how I've changed in appreciating the things I do appreciate. It gives meaning to the experiences I've had growing up even if I have no explicit memory of it left. With that, the genre is more than just something that tells me how to appreciate my own life it is a representation of, and a glimpse into, things I've experienced in life and forgotten to appreciate. Of course, for me to recognize those attributes it would be things about life that I have already experienced. In saying it focuses on daily lives I mean that it's the ideas in life that we all share in common such as what it means to have ambitions and interact with those without, or go through changes in life and therefore high school settings aren't mutually exclusive but wouldn't immediate constitute something of the slice of life genre. I think Aria is a true slice of life at heart even though the setting is really non-realistic and there are dramatic moments and even arguably and overarching plot. I just want more of a personal input on what it means to the audience for the show to belong in that category.įor example, to me, the slice of life genre is one that which focuses on bringing out the qualities that make our own daily lives enjoyable without necessarily pertaining to it in terms of setting or plot. no fantasies, or for someone else to tell me that it's any genre in which the focus is on the interplay between personalities in contrast to plot driven drama. I'm not actually looking for someone to tell me that the definition of the genre is everything that relates to real-life i.e. Maybe both are fine?Īnyway, the question might sound a little vague but I wanted to try to encapsulate as much as possible in terms of what the idea really means. Perhaps this is a bit presumptuous of me to think that this subreddit's meant to be about discussing anime as a viewing medium rather than specific episodes and so on.
